It is not just our aim to teach your child to swim butto swim well enough to choose to pursue a pathway in any aquatic sport. We have a successful water polo section and thisis open to all once they can swim well enough to take part in this fast, furious and demanding aquatic sport. Swimming andwater polo are two of the best all over body workouts around. The current set up is as follows.Monday / Wednesday - TeachingBeginners / Improvers These are self explanatory and swim one after the other on Monday and Wednesday evening, at the very shallow end ofthe pool. Once they move to Swim School they will have attained the NPTS Stage 1 Certificate / Badge. (NPTS NationalPlan For Teaching Swimming).Swim School 1, 2, 3Starting at the shallow end boom your swimmer will progress 1 > 2 > 3 with no change in time in the session so keepingthem at the earlier start time.Swim Skills 4, 5, 6,Starting at the shallow end boom your swimmer will progress 4 > 5 > 6 with no change in time in the session so keepingthem at the later start time.Upon each promotion through Swim School 1 to Swim Skills 6 every swimmer will achieve the next level in the NPTS fromlevel 2 through to 7Click here for further details of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (British Gas Learn to Swim Programme) Once the teaching staff, are satisfied that your child is good enough they will then move into the new sessions of JuniorDevelopment 1 and 2 as and when vacancies arise.Tuesday / Thursday – Coaching / TeachingJunior Development 1 / 2These sets are designed to develop the swimmer further in all four strokes whilst building their strength and endurance forlane swimming as they progress and then pass the time trial for Lane Swimming. At this stage your swimmer should belooking at entering galas club / local / leagues.Junior Development 3 / 4 (previously Lanes Sessions 6 / 7)These swimmers have passed the time trial and been accepted for lane swimming the emphasis is still on skills / drills, but the distances will creep up along with the intensity of the sessions, these swimmers should be seeking out challenges from galas. The target events and distances are 100m / 200m in all four strokes and especially the 200 I.M Teen FitAs the title suggests this session targets teenagers who are keeping fit or swimmers looking for an extra hour etc- thesessions are challenging across all four strokes to a target of 3000 - 3500 metres. Swimmers are expected to read thesession board, complete the sets and do their own timing. The coaching staff will supervise but not teach / coach per se.There is a limit of 6 swimmers per night and these slots will be given on a first come first serve basis, so if you want to trainin this hour you must be on the register for the session not turn up in hope that there is a slot.Monday / Thursday - Coaching / TeachingLanes Sessions 1-5By this stage swimmers should be looking at additional training within swimming squads so as to achieve their potential. These sets will target between 4500 and 6500m, cover a wide variety of skills drills endurance and sprint work. Theseswimmers will form the bulk of the swimming teams that represent the club and all the swimmers ideally should becompeting and targeting local galas to achieve County and Regional Qualifying Times, then if within a Squad set up as welltargeting National Qualifying Times. The target events and distances are 100m / 200m in all four strokes and especially the 200 I.M.Squad SwimmingThe skills, techniques, strokes and ultimately the speed to compete at a higher level is best gained by joining a swim squadas well as the Club. We have several swimmers at Bolton, Wigan, Salford and now Manchester Swimming squads, there isalso a Squad at Warrington. These offer several hours per week training that the club cannot provide but are necessary forthe swimmer. They offer evening and 'morning' sessions, morning sessions are usually around 5 / 6am! It is a time thatswimmers will need to get used to if they are serious about their sport.Training this early allows the body time to recoverrefuel and rest before they do it all again in the evening. However for the younger swimmers the Squads do targetweekends and evenings.
