Khalid Jhugroo who represented Great Britain in the 5 km open water swimming event at the World Championships in 2001 lifted a top title at the 2002-2 Wigan Sports Awards to bring more glory for award-winning Tyldesley Swimming and Water Polo Club.  Khalid collected the Young Performer of the Year award.

The club was also delighted to win two runner-up places beating off tough opposition from the borough's top sporting clubs.

Head of teaching and former Welsh International swimmer Leanne Stafford was unlucky to finish second in the Young Volunteer of the Year category.

The club was also runner up for the Club of the Year title.
