Tyldesley Swimming and Water Polo Club held its 34th Annual Mini Gala before honoured guests: Lord Peter Smith (Leader of Wigan Council), Lady Joy Smith and Mrs Mavis Bent President of Tyldesley S&WPC.  Club members were divided into two age groups 10 years/under and 8 years/under with many of the youngsters enjoying their first taste of competitive swimming.  All swimmers were able to demonstrate their skills to family and friends in backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle over 25 m with the older age group also participating in the 25m butterfly.

 

Grace Morley scored 13 points in the 8/under girls to collect the top girl award for the 2nd year in a row.  She was pushed all the way though by Abigail Barton who won the 25 m freestyle and collected 12 pts.  3rd place went to Eleanor Bailey on 10pts.

 

Melissa Banner scored maximum points in the 10/under girls to collect the top girl award.  In the heats of the 25 m backstroke Melissa was 0.28s outside Samantha Thompson’s record of 18.79s set in 1998 and in the final of the 25 m freestyle was 0.3s outside Michelle Giles’ record of 16.00s set in 1978.  2nd and 3rd places went to Lucy Aspinall and Hannah Bailey who were separated by just one point.

 

Adam Toone scored maximum points in the 8/under boys age group to collect the top boy award for the 2nd year in a row.  Adam also finished in 6th place in the 10/under boys having finished 2nd in the 10/under 25 m butterfly.  2nd place went to James Chadwick who lost out to Adam in the 25 m freestyle by just 0.05s.  3rd place went to Liam Fitzmaurice.

 

Sam Oultram scored maximum points in the 10/under boys to collect the top boy award.  2nd and 3rd places went to Ashley Fahy and Adam Gillespie.
