Tyldesley Swimming and Water Polo Club member Khalid Jhugroo was selected to carry the Queen's Jubilee Baton at the opening of the Commonwealth Games in 2002.

Khalid who represented Great Britain in the 5 km open water swimming event at the World Championships in 2001 was one of the Sport England runners carrying the baton on the way to the opening ceremony in Manchester. He carried it in Heaton Park, Manchester on July 24 - day 49 of the baton's 50 day journey around Britain.

The Queen read a message enclosed in the baton as she officially opened the games.
