City of Salford Spring Meet

Tyldesley swimming club were amongst 51 clubs competing in the City of Salford Spring Meet and did themselves proud as they took the trophy for 3^rd position in the awards for the top visiting clubs and 4^th overall.

Kate Ward and Khalid Jhugroo both finished in 1^st position, Kate in the 14 year 100m freestyle and Khalid in the 13 year 100m breastroke (NQT) whilst 15 year old Matthew Hampson secured his first NQT with a superb swim in the open age 400m IM in which he finished 4^th overall after slashing 2 seconds from his PB.

The 200m events produced some exciting performances from Sarah Wood, Khalid Jhugroo and Kate Ward who finished in 2nd position after some close battles, Sarah in the IM, well under her previous best, and Khalid (PB) and Kate in the freestyle events. Sarah and Kate also finished in 2^nd position in the 100m butterfly events in their respective age groups. 11 year old Samantha Thompson produced a superb swim in the 200m freestyle reducing her PB time by 3 seconds to also finish 2^nd.

3^rd positions went to Khalid Jhugroo in the 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 200m IM, all in PB times, Matthew Hampson in the 200m freestyle (PB), Stuart Carlisle in the 14 year 100m backstroke, Samantha Thompson in the 100m butterfly and Sarah Wood in the 100m breaststroke (PB).

Finishing in 4^th place were Samantha Thompson (200m IM), Stephanie Thompson (100m breaststroke - PB), Jessica Howarth (100m butterfly) and Khalid Jhugroo (100m freestyle).

5th places went to Michelle Greensmith (11 year 200m freestyle), Kelly Banner (13 year 200m individual medley), Samantha Thompson (100m freestyle - PB), Sarah Wood (100m backstroke - PB) and Kate Ward (200m IM).

5^th places in the open age events went to Matthew Hampson (200m butterfly), Khalid Jhugroo (1500m freestyle) and Kate Ward (200m freestyle) with Kate also finishing in 6^th position in the open age 50m freestyle.

Stuart Carlisle set a new PB in the 200m IM and was just edged out of the final, finishing as reserve in the 100m freestyle (PB). Maria Hampson finished in reserve position in the l2 year l00m butterfly with Kelly Banner also as reserve in the 100m backstroke. PB's were also set by Andrew Hurst (1500m freestyle), Mark Hurst and Maria Hampson for their efforts in their respective 400m freestyle events and Stephanie Thompson in the 200m breaststroke (PB).

James Gendall secured a final place after competing in the heat of the 100m butterfly but had to withdraw from the final of this event.
