On 8th November 2006 the
Duke of Edinburgh and the President of Ireland attended a ceremony to present awards to young people.
More than 100 teenagers and young
adults from across Britain
and Ireland received their Duke of Edinburgh
Gold awards and their Irish equivalent, the Gaisce Awards.
The personal development honours were presented jointly by Prince Philip and Mary McAleese
during a ceremony at the Palace of Holyroodhouse
in Edinburgh.
